Frieda’s is a little more obsessed with kiwifruit than the average business. That their founder Frieda Rapoport Caplan helped introduce the kiwi to the American public in 1962 may have something to do with it.
This month, lifestyle retailer and design firm Concepts International, which has collaborated with manufacturers including New Balance, Nike and Adidas, took inspiration from the kiwi for its latest collaboration with New Balance shoes. The New Balance 992 âLow Hanging Fruitâ sneaker pays homage to Dr. Frieda Caplan, the âKiwi Queenâ, and breathes his spirit into popular culture.
The Concepts x New Balance 992 “Low Hanging Fruit” will launch on November 12 at Concepts Boston, Concepts NYC and in an exclusive partnership with Bodega LA.
âRecognizing what Frieda has done in terms of innovation in a male environment is admirable in itself. Whether it’s breaking the product glass ceiling or redefining fruit and veg marketing, she has always been in a league of her own. Uncovering these stories for our consumers and bringing them to life through fashion has always been at the forefront of what we do, âsays Deon Point, Creative Director at Concepts.
The New Balance 992 ‘Low Hanging Fruit’ design details strike a textured balance of brown suede and pops of neon green, giving a kiwi nod. The shoes feature a playful touch through a strawberry footbed, reminiscent of the Americana of the 1990s when the combination of strawberries and kiwi created a vibrant flavor profile. Concepts will simultaneously launch a matching clothing collection including the Concepts Icon hoodie, sweatpants and t-shirts.
The Concepts x New Balance 992 âLow Hanging Fruitâ will launch on November 12 at Concepts Boston, Concepts NYC and in an exclusive partnership with Bodega LA. The complete Concepts ‘Nothing is Real’ clothing collection will launch in all stores and on cncpts.com on November 12th. Visit the Concepts website or stores to view the collection.
