Sharp launches 540W bifacial double glazed PV panel

Sharp today announces the launch of a new 540W bifacial half-cell monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic (PV) panel – the NB-JD540. The new module is designed for commercial and utility scale open-field installations, providing customers with a lower levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) and higher return on investment. Depending on site conditions, bifacial technology can increase panel power output by up to 25%.

High output power

The NB-JD540 has a module efficiency of 20.9% and is equipped with 144 half-cells the size of an M10 wafer. The module is rated for system voltage up to 1500V and is printed with white reflectors in the gaps between the cells on the back glass to increase light absorption on the front side.

A low temperature coefficient of -0.349%/°C for the output power ensures high performance at high ambient temperatures, which are becoming increasingly important due to climate change and the resulting increase in temperatures.

High product reliability

A high performance encapsulation sheet with a combination of EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) and PEO (Polyolefins) is used to prevent Potential Induced Degradation (PID) affecting the back side of bifacial modules.

The NB-JD540 bifacial module features 10-busbar technology using round ribbons which increases the power gain of each cell and makes them less susceptible to micro-cracks, providing greater module reliability.

Like all Sharp half-cell modules, the NB-JD540 has three small junction boxes instead of just one, each equipped with a bypass diode. These junction boxes transfer less heat to the cells above and thus increase panel longevity and overall system performance.

The panel’s safety, quality and durability have been recognized by IEC seals (IEC61215 and IEC61730). The modules have been rigorously tested for compliance with international standards and for endurance under extreme conditions, passing ammonia, salt spray, sand and PID resistance tests.

The dimensions of the NB-JD540 are 2278 x 1134mm, with a 30mm aluminum frame. The front and back layers of glass are each 2mm thick and the panel weighs 32.5kg in total.

The module is covered by a 30-year linear warranty on nominal power and a 15-year product warranty, for those in the EU and several other countries, from the delivery of the panel to the end customer.
